Disaster hits Bong …As storm destroys homes, leaves several residents injured

Violent storm on Sunday destroyed several houses and businesses in Gbarnga City and its surroundings in Bong County, leaving several persons injured.

Some of facilities which have been destroyed include Gas Stations, Market Buildings, the government run Dolokelen Gboveh High School Auditorium, Churches and dwelling places amongst others.

In an interview with the Insight on Monday in Gbarnga, some of the victims narrated that the disaster has created a serious setback for them. The victims including men, women, children and youths among others are currently homeless.


Some of the victims are now sleeping in open places in Gbarnga, Bong County, our correspondent said.

According to the residents, the storm destroyed over fifty seven houses in the Lelekpayea Community and its surrounding in the City.

Most of the victims they do not have the means of renovating their damaged houses, our correspondent added.

 They called on the Government of Liberian (GoL), foreign embassies, humanitarians and relief groups for relief assistance.

 “We do not have money, how will we handle this ugly situation, our important belongings clothes were destroyed by the storm,” Moses Kollie, one of the victims told the Insight in a sad mood.

“I have more than thirteen persons living with me including my wife and children, who will want to give me sleeping place with this number of dependents,” victim Kollie asked:.

Some of the storm victims are currently undergoing serious medical attention at the Phebe Hospital and others local clinics in Gbarnga, Bong County, according to our correspondents.

“If I can’t get any help from the government, I will definitely have to go to the farm to live, because I have lost my house and I can’t do anything with this kind of sore on my head,” Patience Forkpah, one of the victims who got seriously injured told our Bong County Correspondent.

 The victims appealed to humanitarian organizations, citizens, the Government of Liberia through the Disaster Management team to come to their aid in wherever way possible.
