Madam Rebecca McGill, sister of the Minster of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill, has been confirmed by the Senate as Deputy Minister for Administration, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.
Ms. McGill was confirmed Thursday by majority members of the Senate.
The Committee on Ways, Means Finance and Budget chaired by Bomi County Senator, Morris Saytumah, recommended to the Plenary of the Senate that Nominee possesses the credentials and is up to the task to serve as Deputy Minister.
The committee further indicated that the curriculum vita submitted by Ms. McGill shows that she obtained BA Degree in Management and Accounting from the University of Liberia in 2012, and holds a Master Degree in professional Accounting (MPACC) from Shanghai National Institute, (Shanghai, People’s Republic of China) in 2017.
The nominee CV also shows that she obtained several Certificates, including a workshop in SME-Development, emerging ASIA and Integration to the Global Value Chin, organized by the Asian Development Bank Institute, Certificate in specialized courses of needs assessment and cause benefit and analysis for development evaluation, organized by the Ministry of Finance of the People Republic of China, the World Bank Group, the Asia Development Bank among others.
The Committee at the same time said following thoughtful examination of the nominee CV, she is best suited to help in the realization of the government “Pro-Poor Policy”.
“The committee on Ways, Means Finance and Budget is convinced that Madam Rebecca McGill will contribute to the output of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning as Deputy Minister for Administration, whereas, and in view of the foregoing, the committee unanimously recommends the confirmation of the nominee”.
Following the reading of the committee’s report, Lofa County Senator George Tengbeh proffered for the Secretary of the Senate to also read the observations as contained in the report, such recommendation by the Lofa Senator was never given credence, as the Secretary failed to do same.
The report to have Madam McGill confirm was signed by Senators, Morris Saytumah-Chair(Bomi), Edward Dagoseh-Co-Chair(Grand Cape Mount), Peter Coleman(Grand Kru), George Tengbeh(Lofa), Marshall Dennis(Grand Gedeh),Henry Yallah(Bong), Jim Tornonlah(Margibi), Derous Goweh(River Cess) Matthew Jay (River Gee), Joseph Nagbe(Sinoe) and Prince Johnson (Nimba)-Members.
Senators, Geraldine Doe- Sherif (Montserrado), Armah Jallah(Gbarpolu) , Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence and J. Gbleh-bo Brown did not signed the report.
During her confirmation hearing, Ms. McGill among other things told the Senators that she is a mother, a wife and a career woman.
She went on to say that she had worked as an Account Assistant at the Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA).
Her main managerial experience, Rebecca said was when she served as an administrator for a church that had 500 members and “because of my skills, the current membership is over 600.”
