The Elections Committee of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) has released the guidelines and electoral calendar for this year’s LFA leadership elections which will be held on April 14th during the Elections Congress.

The 2018 Election Calendar released on Friday, March 9, 2018 said Nomination, Registration and Scrutiny of Candidates will run from the March 9 to 19, 2018.

The final listing of candidate will be released on the 21st of March 2018.

In an eight-count guidelines, the Commission said the Election shall be conducted free of Governmental and/or non-governmental interference as contained in the LFA Electoral Code by any individual and/or official of Government or non-governmental institution, and to include the candidates and their supporters.

The Commission in a released warned any candidate(s) who will be found of violating this Electoral Code will be disqualified.

The Commission also released the fees for those seeking elected position at the football house:

Presidential Candidates: USD $2,500.00
Vice Presidential Candidates: USD $1,500.00
Executive Committee Candidates: USD $1,000.00

Additionally, Presidential candidates are required to have at least five (5) nominations from Stakeholders; Vice Presidential candidates at least three (3) nominations; while there’s no nomination requirement for Executive Committee candidates. No single club can nominate more than one candidate in the same category.

The elections calendar disclosed that Campaign period will run from March 21 to April 13, 2018 and there shall be no campaigning with money (buying of votes).

Any candidate or his/her supporters who are reported and or found inducing stakeholders with money for votes will be disqualified.

The Election Committee has warned that candidates and stakeholders found guilty of campaigning on profanities and falsehood without evidence will be disqualified and barred from contesting and voting. There shall be no profanities during the election.

The release from the Election Commission said two separate debates will be held with the Vice Presidential debate taking place on April 5 while the Presidential will be held on April 6, 2018.

The Elections Committee has advised there shall be absolutely NO phone(s), Cameras or any devices on voters while they are in the process of casting their ballots.

Eligible voters will be checked before they are allowed to vote. There will be absolutely NO camping of stakeholders. Any candidate who camps voters before elections will be automatically disqualified, the release concluded.

CRITERIA FOR CANDIDATES

 Presidential candidates must meet a minimum criterion of: 1. Must not be younger than 25 years old

2. Must be nominated by five LFA members 3. Must be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree. 5. Must have not been found guilty of any criminal offense.

6. Must be a Liberian citizen and have residency within Liberia.

7. Must be elected by the Congress 8. Each term shall span four years and the candidate will submit for re-election.

9. Cannot serve more than three terms whether consecutive or non-consecutive (previous terms as Vice-President or executive committee members do not factor into the three term limit).

 Vice Presidential Candidates must meet the below minimum criteria to be qualified by the Elections Committee: 1. Must not be younger than 25 years old 2. Must be nominated by five LFA members 3. Must be qualified by Bachelor’s Degree 4. Must have not been found guilty of any criminal offense 5. Must be a Liberian citizen and have residency within Liberia 6. Must be elected by the Congress 7. Each term shall span four years and the candidate will submit for re-election. 8. Cannot serve more than three terms whether consecutive or non-consecutive.  

 A candidate for the EC Position Must: 1. Must not be younger than 25 years old 2. Must be nominated by one LFA member 3. Must be qualified by a high school diploma 4. Must have not been found guilty of any criminal offence. 5. Must be a Liberian citizen and have residency within Liberia 6. Must be elected by the Congress 7. Each term shall span four years. These regulations are without prejudice to all other provisions of the LFA Statues and Electoral codes not mentioned herein. The Elections Committee wishes to note the previous statement of no nomination for Executive Members have been quashed.
