The Liberia Marketing Association (LMA) and the Thomas Family have signed six- acre land agreement in Suakoko, Bong County. The land will be used by the LMA.
In line with the agreement, the LMA will pay, by installment, a little over one million four hundred and thirteen thousand Liberian Dollars (1, 413000).
Speaking at the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently in Bong County, the National Vice President of the Liberia Marketing Association, Abraham Barchue, expressed gladness and stated that marketers of Suakoko will be relieved when it comes to safe environment.
Mr. Barcue said Marketers of Suakoko have been finding it very difficult to sell their products.
“The six acres provided by the LMA through the Thomas Family will help the Marketers,” he emphasized.
According to him, the current location of the Suakoko Market is very dangerous for marketers including women and children because drivers of various vehicles that ply the Suakoko high-way move with excessive speeds along the road.
“When the market remains at this place, motor accidents will continue to occur in this area and we do not want it that way,” he stressed.
“Our mothers and sisters usually sell right on the main road which is various dangerous because car can be running on the road especially on Fridays ( Suakoko Market day), so we strongly believe that relocating the market will be good for them,” Mr. Barchue said.
Mr. Barchue, at the same time, assured the LMA’s commitment to the MoU as signed by the two parties.
Also speaking at the occasion, the President of the Liberia Marketing Association (LMA), Alice Gorupu Yeebahn, extended commendations to Bong Superintendent Esther Walker, for working with the LMA Bong Chapter to ensure the signing of the MoU.
Madam Yeebahn also promised to work with the Superintendent of Bong County and local members of the Liberia Marketing Association.
For her part, Bong County Superintendent, Madam Esther Yamah Walker, thanked the LMA for providing the land for the Suakoko Market Women and at the same time promised to work with them for the overall development of the LMA Bong branch.
